With Lieder Distortion I wanted to take classical music, written by Mozart, Schubert, Vivaldi and others and make them the way I wanted to hear them.
When I studied classical music at the Academy of Opera, I always thought in the middle of a Schubert song or similar: “Here the guitars should come in, here the drums should start playing the crash cymbal, etc..
I have been working on this album together with Swedish and Italian musicians since the day I dropped out of the Academy of Opera. I had a year left and was supposed to take a year off, but I never came back. Instead, I started freelancing in the most diverse genres, music styles and venues.
After revising the album several times, we finally released our first single in January 2023. The album will be released on the Italian label Shunu Records to which I sent a demo at an early stage. After that, they have been a huge part of the process of developing the sound and arrangements of the songs. My first demo was disorganized to say the least… on basically all instruments.
There is so much music being released every day that I have had a hard time motivating myself to record and release something under my own name. But with Lider Distortion, I can actually feel that this record is not done.
- Introduce us to the band! What are your names and what do you do in the band?
For now I prefer to be anonymous, we’ll see if I change my mind in the future. I would probably be quite a confusing character for those who discover this side of my musical activity…
Where do you call home?
Sweden and in a way Italy. Musicians, Producers and Records label are in Italy.
- How long have you been together as a band and how did you find each other?
We’re not really a band, more of a project, but I’ve played the project live and it was with musician friends. I met the producers and the record company via the internet after I sent a demo. - Do you have a special songwriting recipe you follow?
We play opera arias and classical music by composers such as Mozart, Vivaldi, Schubert etc. So what we do is arrange this for a band. It’s time-consuming and complicated, but we’ve managed to make an album that will be released this fall…
- How would members of your family describe your music to someone that hasn’t heard it?
Operarock/Symphonic Metal with mainly male vocals
- What do you have on your(Spotify) playlists you would be embarrassed for others to see?
No, I don’t care what other people think I should and shouldn’t listen to - Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Relax and sometimes fall asleep
- Who have you met that has left you starstruck?
Henrik Beggren (Broder Daniel) passed me on the stairs at Jazzhuset - What do you consider your greatest achievement as far as a band?
That we got the record together
- What key elements do you believe makes up a successful song?
I really hope no one ever comes up with an answer to that question. Then the mystery and the fun of the music dies 🙂
- When writing, how do you know when it is finally done?
When I don’t want to add or remove anything. It’s worse with production, where you never feel ready in principle…
- What song of yours are you most proud of?
Don Giovanni! (Will be released in May 2023). - Is it possible to be on the road and not eat junk food? How do you keep it leveled out?
Yes, there are many restaurants and taverns with the dish of the day, but it is clear that it is probably significantly more caloric than homemade. I rarely eat two meals a day if it’s only restaurant food
- Are you able to write while on the road or do you need a calm familiar space like home?
As I said, we don’t write much of our material, but I can find material and arrange it in my head without any problems on tour
- What’s the most embarrassing thing to happen on stage or on tour?
I’ve had to run off and puke twice. Got sick to my stomach on stage. But could continue then… - What can BleachBANGS do to help you in any way?
I am grateful that you have this chat with us - How can everyone keep up with everything you have going on? Where can they get albums/merch?
