Introduce us to the band! What are your names and what do you do in the band?
Where do you call home?
Hi, and it’s my pleasure to chat with you here. I am Eric Gynan, co-founder of the band Leaving Eden. We are from The Boston Massachusetts area USA. Leaving Eden & Silver Springs Fleetwood Mac Tribute is: (2 different bands with the same members)
Eve Lead vocals
Alyssa Bailey White Keys/Vocals
Jake Gynan Drums
Rich Chouinard Bass/Vocals
Eric Gynan Guitar/Vocals.
2. How long have you been together as a band and how did you find each other?
We’ve been around the block for well over a decade. Myself, Eve, and Rick the bass player were in a band together before Leaving Eden. Jake on the drums asked to join and we met Alyssa at a venue in New England. The rest is history as they say.
3. Do you have a special songwriting recipe you follow?
All year we are writing and then we record everything in Leaving Eden’s studio. I do all the recording and the first mix. Then we send it off to be co-mixed/mastered. It’s a process which takes months to complete. We are focusing more on EP’s and singles so the process will be shorter and more direct.
Everything is generally based on reality. What’s happening to us, or in the world, how we are feeling in the moment and connecting to the source. Listening to what the Universe has to say. Most of the time you can hear the entire song already mixed and playing in your mind’s eye. All I have to do is get it from there to the recording. It’s a blast.
4. How would members of your family describe your music to someone that hasn’t heard it?
I asked Eve’s mom, “Fun, you need to go see them, they’re wicked good” (in a French accent)
5. What do you have on your(Spotify) playlists you would be embarrassed for others to see?
I wouldn’t say embarrassed, but you’d probably be humored that I enjoy ELO live. They got close to 18 or more people up on stage in the band. Very cool.
6. Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Oh a little of this and a little of that to get our senses keen.
7. Who have you met that has left you starstruck?
Well we’ve been fortunate enough to have played with so many great artists. Leaving Eden has Toured The USA, UK & Canada sharing the stage with hundreds of the biggest national bands in the world including; Lacuna Coil, In This Moment, Black Sabbath (Heaven & Hell), Ronnie James Dio, Rob Zombie, 5 Finger DeathPunch, Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, Alice Cooper, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZTop, Puddle of Mudd, Korn, Killswitch Engage, Buckcherry (Jefferson Starship, Big Brother and The Holding Company, Country Joe, 10 Years After, 40th Anniversary Woodstock) Shinedown, Dropkick Murphy’s, Alice in Chains, Papa Roach, Bret Michaels, Halestorm,Theory of a Deadman, Avenged Sevenfold, Seether, Hell Yeah, Trapt, Dope, Soil, Fuel, Queensryche, Saving Abel, Hinder, Damage Plan, 7Dust, Sebastian Bach, SoulFly, Days of the New, NonPoint, DrowningPool, The Misfits, The Butcher Babies, Collective Soul, MushroomHead, Mudvayne, Chevelle, Godsmack, Powerman 5000, 10Years, Taproot, Gin Blossoms, Michael Schenker (UFO, MSG & The Scorpions) Herman Rarebell (The Scorpions), Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Kittie, One eyed doll, Uncle Kracker, Tremonti (Creed/Alterbridge) Lamb of god, Slayer, Stone Sour, Motorhead, Blackstone Cherry, HOOKERS & BLOW Featuring GUNS N’ ROSES, QUIET RIOT, W.A.S.P. Members, Steven Tyler, Ted Nugent, Lita Ford, LA Guns, Trixter, Warrant, Apocalyptic Review (featuring members of Godsmack) Adelitas Way, Scott Stapp (The voice of Creed), Pop Evil, Ratt & many more. I think when we hung out with David Draiman, Disturbed, that was very cool.
8. What do you consider your greatest achievement as far as a band?
Being able to play and record is our greatest joy, and what brings you joy, I consider a major achievement.
9. What key elements do you believe make up a successful song?
Great lyrics, composition, melody, harmony and rhythm makes for a great song in my humble opinion.
10. When writing, how do you know when it is finally done?
Grey question cause the true answer is never, however ya gotta finish at some point. I guess if the mix is good, everything is tight, then you say Done! Time to move on.
11. What song of yours are you most proud of?
Out Of The Ashes By Leaving Eden
Recorded with Johnny K.,(Disturbed, Finger Eleven, Drowning Pool, 3 Doors Down, Pop Evil, Sevendust, Stained). Just love everything about the song.
12. Is it possible to be on the road and not eat junk food? How do you keep it leveled out?
Sure. We head to the grocery store, got the fridge and stove. It all works out fine. We do go out to eat but not regularly.
13. Are you able to write while on the road or do you need a calm familiar space like home?
Sure we write on the road. It happens a lot. The buzz from the road is quite nice.
14. What’s the most embarrassing thing to happen on stage or on tour?
When Eve fell, she tripped over the bass player, I think we were playing with Sevendust. She got up and did a courtesy and went on with the show. Was funny.
15. What can BleachBANGS do to help you in any way?
You’re doing it! Love it and keep on Rockin!
