CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT has spent a lot of time on the European and American roads headlining tours and blowing festivals the last few years and have shared stage with a bunch of great bands like Supersuckers, Turbonegro, Peter Pan Speedrock, Mondo Generator, Massendefekt, Exploited, V8 Wankers, Electric Eel Shock, Adam West, Hard-Ons, Dozer, Meteors, Trail Of Dead, Bombshell Rocks and many more.
CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT has left a trail of CD´s, LP´s, singles, comps & tributes behind them during the years and they shared vinyl or CD -space with bands like Hellacopters, Sator, Nomads, Backyard Babies, Electric Frankenstein, Mad Sin, Bones, V8 Wankers, Twisted Sister, Mondo Generator, Danko Jones etc. Most of those releases are long gone, but the band promises to keep on releasing singles and album like there is no tomorrow.
The band name CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT is often believed to been taken after the US martial arts champion Chuck Norris. But as all true believers and lovers of Rock’n’roll know, the band name is a tribute to the legendary American blues guitarist Charles “Chuck” Norris, who recorded the classic live album “Los Angeles Flash” in the band’s hometown Gothenburg on June 25, 1980.
- Introduce us to the band! What are your names and what do you do in the band?
We are the CHUCK NORRIS EXPERIMENT:
Chuck Ransom, vocals
Chuck Rooster, guitar
Chuck the Ripper, guitar
Chuck Daniels, guitar
Chuck Dakota, bass
Chuck Buzz, drums
- Where do you call home?
Gothenburg, Sweden
- How long have you been together as a band and how did you find each other?
Me (Chuck Rooster) and Chuck Ransom were playing in a band called Rickshaw in the beginning of 2000. We were hanging around with lots of musicians playing in different bands and somehow, probably during a drunk evening, we thought it would be a good idea with a side project band and the Chuck Norris Experiment was born. We decided to write 10 songs and do 10 rehearsals and after that hit the studio. Said and done! Our first album is not perfectly played but the energy is 100% pure and I still love the feeling of the album.
- Do you have a special songwriting recipe you follow?
Normally Ransom or the Ripper has an idea for a new song. It can be a riff or a complete song. Then we try it and and probably change a few things and arrangements and at the end of the session, if everybody is smiling, then it’s a keeper. To be honest we are quite strict and I don’t know how many songs we finished that will never make it to a studio recording. Chuck Ransom is the most creative guy in the band I would say and also the hardest critic. But it’s good, I like it! We should only release stuff we feel is great!
- How would members of your family describe your music to someone that hasn’t heard it?
Action hard rock! Put AC/DC, Motörhead and Turbonegro in a mixer and blend it!
- What do you have on your(Spotify) playlists you would be embarrassed for others to see?
Hahaha! Good questions and there is probably a lot that other people would be embarrassed to see, but I could not care less! Probably Kikki Danielsson (Swedish schlager and country queen) and Swedish oldies from 1930-1940’s.
- Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Beer drinking! We have a few rituals while being on tour and the most important is singing Aces High from Iron Maiden in the tour van when the first beers of the day kicks in. I have some finger warm-up techniques I do before going on stage but other than that, not so much.
- Who have you met that has left you starstruck?
Should I be honest I try to avoid situations like this. I don’t want to meet my heroes. Somehow I want them to be larger than life. We have met a lot of great musicans while touring, but I guess the time I met the members of Rövsvett (Swedish punk) by surprise in the backstage room at a festival in Sweden two-three years ago, this was close to being starstrucked!
- What do you consider your greatest achievement as far as a band?
Of course we played some cool festivals, did some great shows and supported really great bands, but I would say our latest two albums is something I am really proud of. “This will leave a mark” and “20”.
* What key elements do you believe makes up a successful song?
That you want to smile, dance, drink, fight or fuck when you hear the song! Me personally I like a refrain you can scream along to and a catchy hook which you can’t get out of your head.
* When writing, how do you know when it is finally done?
This is always a process, but as long as we are not happy with the complete song, we keep working on it. Everything has to fit somehow and if it does not you can feel it.
* What song of yours are you most proud of?
It’s always my latest song which is the best, why should I write something which is not better than before? So in this case I guess it’s “Bats” or “Jason Vorhees” from our latest album. They turned out great!
* Is it possible to be on the road and not eat junk food? How do you keep it leveled out?
No and no idea! If anybody knows, please let us know!
* Are you able to write while on the road or do you need a calm familiar space like home?
I have not been able to write anything on the road and I don’t remember us doing it as a band either, but I might be mistaken. I am writing all my stuff at home on the couch, but it’s really in the rehearsal room where the ideas are growing up to be real songs.
* What’s the most embarrassing thing to happen on stage or on tour?
Except technical failures and naked bass players I think we have been lucky enough not to be too embarrassing on stage. Knock on wood!
* What can BleachBANGS do to help you in any way?
Keep up your good work and keep spreading the words of local rockstars like us all over the world!
* How can everyone keep up with everything you have going on? Where can they get albums/merch?
